In another display of the typical improvisation characteristic of Chavismo, Venezuela presented yesterday a show attended by the country’s top officials to ‘inform about a plan’ allegedly crafted via email among 5 people to ‘assassinate’ President Nicolás Maduro. The problem is that the document regarding the ‘plan’ that the Venezuelan government has published and is distributing was created after the announcement of the ‘plan’.
It would be an exercise in vain to address the Chavismo arguments regarding this.
First of all, all the ‘evidence’ was obtained by hacking personal emails and communications of a group of people, which in most countries around the world are considered private.
Secondly, the ‘proof’ presented contains not even a shred of real evidence.
Thirdly, the fact that Venezuela: 1) First Lady, 2) President of Congress, 3) Minister of Energy-President of PDVSA-Vice President of Economy, 4) Vice President, 5) Minister of Information and Communications, 6) Minister of Interior and Defense, 7) Governor of Aragua State, and 8) Mayor of Caracas, sat for over an hour in a press conference to fabricate accusations using illegally obtained communications between private Venezuelan citizens, violating due process and current legislation, demonstrates beyond a doubt that hacking is a state policy in Venezuela. Furthermore, it shows that the highest authorities of the country have no qualms about subjecting the population to a systematic use of illegal surveillance in their attempt to remain in power. Such illegal actions strip any credibility that their ‘evidence’ may contain.
