Just a few weeks ago, some media outlets reported that Venezuelan mogul Oswaldo Cisneros was being investigated by the U.S. government “for drug trafficking and money laundering” in the country.
However, on Saturday, October 19, journalist Casto Ocando revealed that the Donald Trump administration has taken action and decided to “suspend the visa” for the cousin and partner of Gustavo Cisneros due to “investigations regarding the sale of Venezuelan crude oil.”
The Venezuelan journalist also claims that this measure comes after “various complaints” against the businessman, who had ties to telecommunications companies in Venezuela like Digitel or Telcel, but decided in 2016 to venture into the oil industry alongside Nicolás Maduro’s regime.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the billionaire invested one billion dollars in an oil field controlled by Chavismo when the regime “sought to attract more private funds for the struggling energy sector.”
“A group of Venezuelan businessmen led by Cisneros, calling themselves Delta Petroleum NV, will sign an agreement next week to invest $800 million in the joint venture PetroDelta with the state-owned Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. in the east of the country,” the American media outlet specified.
According to a report by Voice of America in early October 2019, Cisneros is under investigation by the legal systems of the United States, England, Switzerland, and also “involve Alessandro Bazzoni and Oswaldo Cisneros, who are partners in various oil projects in Venezuela.”
