Tunnels Under Siege: Military Operations in Fuerte Tiuna Raise Alarms About Hidden Agendas

By order of Major General Johan Alexander Hernández Lárez, three tunnels are currently being constructed at the headquarters of the Bolivarian Army Command located in Fuerte Tiuna.

What is the reason? It’s not precisely known, but according to sources from Venezuela Política, the claimed objective for building the tunnels is to store military equipment while protecting against potential attacks.

Unlike the Bolivarian Navy Command situated in San Bernardino, the Bolivarian Military Aviation Command based at Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda Air Base (also known as La Carlota Air Base), and the Bolivarian National Guard Command located in El Paraíso; the Bolivarian Army Command is located in Fuerte Tiuna, which provides it with the security of the military units stationed there.

So, what is the fear? Or does the reason relate to a desire to hide something or someone?

Who is Hernández Lárez?

Major General Johan Alexander Hernández Lárez was confirmed as head of the Bolivarian Army Command in October 2024, when Nicolás Maduro dismissed MG Iván Rafael Hernández Dala from the Directorate General of Military Counterintelligence (DGCIM) and GJ Gustavo Enrique González López from the SEBIN.

“There can be no fascist soldiers in our ranks,” he stated in his first speech after taking office, emphasizing the ideology that those serving in the armed forces must uphold.

Hernández Lárez recently visited the Iranian Embassy in Caracas, alongside members of the Expanded Superior General Staff and the Joint Staff of the Operational Strategic Command of the FANB, where he expressed his categorical rejection of “the military aggression and attack perpetrated by the Zionist state of Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

He described Israel’s right to defense as unjustified and terrorist while expressing condolences to Iran—words of comfort not heard on October 7, 2023, when Hamas, sponsored by the Iranian regime, launched an attack.

The Tunnels

The three tunnels are located near the shooting range of the Bolivarian Army Command.
