The hypothesis is that Nynas was prohibited from continuing crude oil purchases in Venezuela…
Recently, we received a copy of PDVSA’s SAP system. In April, June, August, and September 2020, PDVSA’s SAP recorded shipping knowledge issued in favor of Nynas AB, Gasprombank Energy Services (sic), and GPB Energy Services B.V., for shipments of Bachaquero and Laguna crude from Puerto Miranda and Amuay, by tankers Umlma, Daytona, Minerva Eleanora, Tigani, and Mareta.
In total, and despite the alleged prohibition from the Treasury, 1,597,914 barrels of crude were sold to Nynas according to B/L data. It is important to reiterate that these transactions took place in April, June, August, and September 2020.
Reuters reported in May of this year that “a Nynas spokesperson told Reuters that the company had no plans to resume imports of Venezuelan oil.” This statement was made in the context of the lifting of Treasury sanctions specifically on Nynas, not on whether it could or could not begin purchasing crude from its main Venezuelan supplier, namely, Petrozamora, the joint venture between PDVSA and Derwick / GPB Energy Services B.V.
