Forgive the use of vernacular in the title and text, but the stupidity of this man seems boundless. Yesterday, Nicolás Maduro stated in one of those populist rallies that the chavista regime organizes every time they hand out some kind of gift:
Listen to the President of Venezuela: “It should be prohibited for people who do not live in Venezuela to own a media outlet. I think it’s a good idea, and it needs to be studied“.
Here are some links, just in case they manage to delete the video: Noticias24, Youtube, EuropaPress, Diario de Cuba, El Economista.
Well, this imbecile—since no other term applies—should be informed that an English group (Hanson Asset Management) recently acquired Cadena Capriles, the media conglomerate with the largest audience in Venezuela.
They should inform him, as he seems to pretend ignorance on this matter, that Venezuelan law already has at least two instruments prohibiting “people who do not live in Venezuela from owning a media outlet,” namely the Telecommunications Law (art. 9) and Decree 2095.
Maduro is fully aware that Hanson Asset Management is involved in the “purchase” of Cadena Capriles, and that this “purchase” was made in violation of the aforementioned law and decree, as well as the Banking Law. Furthermore, Maduro, through his Minister of Information Delcy Rodriguez, is seeking to acquire El Universal, the outlet he attacked yesterday.
