Jorge Arreaza’s UN Discourse: A Masterclass in Denial Amid Venezuela’s Corruption Scandal

Jorge Arreaza is currently in Switzerland, behaving like an Arab prince accompanied by a flattering entourage. It’s as if nothing is happening in Venezuela. His attitude was evident when journalists approached him to ask about the monumental scandal at PDVSA that led to the arrest of Matthias Krull, and the accusations against the businessman from Derwick, Francisco Convit. He claimed to be unaware of the situation and had not heard anything regarding it. When the reporters pressed the issue, mentioning that people had already been arrested (by the U.S. Department of Justice) and that Nicolas Maduro‘s stepsons had been indicted, Arreaza responded with, “there are many media campaigns against President Nicolas Maduro and his inner circle…”

The highlight of the exchange was when he stated that the Attorney General is supposedly waging an all-out war against corruption in Venezuela. Such is the fervor of this fight that Francisco Convit remains comfortably nestled in Venezuela, while the criminal organization known as chavismo seems completely oblivious to the arrest warrant against him. Not to mention the actions the Attorney General has taken against Nicolas Maduro, his stepsons, Raul Gorrin, and Alejandro Bentancourt, all in Venezuela and all implicated in the embezzlement of 1.2 billion dollars from PDVSA.

There are still people who believe that a dialogue can be established with this gang of criminals…
