I took advantage of an event in Washington to tell the Dalai Lama about the terrible situation that Venezuela is experiencing. He was shocked and saddened to hear about the brutal repression unleashed by the security forces of the regime, worker militias, and other armed criminals who are terrorizing and killing innocent Venezuelans. I asked him to pray for Venezuela, for peace, for the restoration of some level of tranquility, and for the cessation of the attacks supported by Nicolás Maduro and his regime.
It is truly a shame for those of us who are outside the country to witness what is happening. What Maduro and his henchmen need to understand is that we are not the only ones concerned about Venezuela. The entire world is watching closely what is happening in our country, and although there is little they can do, the democratic mask of Chavismo has already fallen. The world now knows, reaffirmed by the brutal repression of recent days, what is really behind that so-called “Bolivarian revolution.”
In these dark times, we at least have the solidarity and prayers of leaders like the Dalai Lama. Who does Maduro have?
