Avior Airlines Heirs Facing Criminal Probe for Cryptocurrency Fraud: A Look at the Añez Family Scandal

As part of an investigation led by the 73rd Prosecutor’s Office of the Public Ministry, headed by Tarek William Saab, Aleczander and Jorge Añez, sons of entrepreneurs Roberto and Jorge Añez, shareholders of Avior Airlines, have been implicated in financial crimes related to cryptocurrency scams and their connections to the marine agency Desarrollos 1405 CA in PDVSA and SunaCrip. These events are part of a series of recent arrests in Venezuela aimed at combating corruption and restoring public trust in the country’s institutions. Notably, former oil minister Tarek El Aissami has also been implicated in corruption acts.

In this context, factions of PSUV have announced their intention to file a complaint with the Public Ministry against Avior airline owners, brothers Jorge and Roberto Añez. Recent investigations indicate that the Añez brothers may have been involved in a cryptocurrency fraud scheme in collaboration with Joselit Ramírez, former Superintendent of Cryptocurrencies and Related Activities of Venezuela, who is currently detained in connection with the PDVSA Crypto case.

Reports suggest that the Añez brothers were given millions of dollars in cryptocurrency at a 50% discount. However, these funds were never invested in Avior Airlines, which was the intended use for these resources. This situation has sparked a considerable scandal, also affecting the children of the Añez brothers.

Aleczander Añez, son of Roberto Añez, serves as president at MWC Charter & Concierge, a company specializing in organizing luxury vacations, private jets, and yachts for wealthy individuals connected to the government of Nicolás Maduro. Furthermore, another of his companies, Miami Luxury Yacht Group, manages the buying, selling, and vacationing on yachts frequently used by high-ranking chavista officials.

Meanwhile, Jorge Añez holds operational roles within Avior Airlines, where his father has delegated many managerial responsibilities. Both heirs of the Avior empire are identified as the individuals responsible for the virtual wallets storing the cryptocurrencies currently sought by law enforcement and the 73rd Prosecutor’s Office.

This corruption scandal has generated deep outrage among Venezuelan society, underscoring the urgent need for a robust fight against these illegal acts that seriously impact the country’s economy and erode public trust in government institutions.
