The struggle against the Tren de Aragua led by U.S. authorities resulted in the arrest of Yonaiker Gallegos in Los Angeles, California. He is allegedly linked to the transnational criminal organization designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the U.S. government.
The arrest was executed by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on April 25 during a joint operation with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
It is important to note that Gallegos was already in local custody when HSI agents arrested him.
Gallegos was using the false identity of Yoniaker Rafael Martínez-Ramos, which he employed for his entry into the U.S. Authorities determined he was found with counterfeit documents at the time of arrest.
False Identification
Inconsistencies in his identification led ICE to uncover the true identity of the alleged Tren de Aragua member.
U.S. security agents detected inconsistencies in the individual’s identification, leading them to confirm that the documents he carried were fake.
The situation began on April 22 when he was arrested by Los Angeles police for minor offenses; however, the data of the man was not consistent, which prompted HSI agents to suspect that the name he provided was not real.
A deeper investigation on April 23 revealed Gallegos’ true identity, using facial recognition technology that established he wasYoniaker Rafael Martínez-Ramos, validated as a member of the Tren de Aragua and a leader of the criminal organization in California.
The man’s tattoos, along with inquiries on social media, showed him sharing images and videos of criminal activities, boasting with grenades, rifles, and drugs.
It was reported that prosecutors from the Department of Justice will press charges against him for terrorism and illegal immigration. His deportation to El Salvador is presumed.
