As reported by El Tubazo Digital, after being missing for 11 days, former PSUV deputy Aldrin Torres and his wife Rebeca Núñez were found dead this Saturday in Bolívar state.
Both were discovered close to Aldrin’s burned vehicle, showing gunshot wounds. This suggests a motive of revenge.
Journalist German Dam reported that “The bodies of Aldrin Torres and Rebeca Núñez, the local registrar, were not burned. Their remains were found just a few meters from the chavista leader’s car, leading authorities to believe they were executed on the same day they were kidnapped.”
On Saturday evening, the same journalist noted that at 7:32 PM, “CICPC, SEBIN, and Heres Police units left the area where the bodies of Aldrin Torres and Rebeca Núñez were. The corpses were located less than 500 meters from the highway between Ciudad Bolívar and Ciudad Guayana, specifically between km 35 and 36.”
The bodies were found on the outskirts of Ciudad Bolívar, in San José del Bongo, where police and media gathered.
Political and police sources have suggested—some even stating outright—that this crime might be connected to Aldrin Torres’ denunciations against gold mafias operating in the region.
Moreover, it is asserted that Torres and his wife were taken from their home, which had been monitored by motorbikers in the area.
“Investigations suspect that this was carried out by criminal gangs linked to the gold mafias. Aldrin Torres had been denouncing irregularities in El Callao, Tumeremo, and the mining zone for over two months,” a regional news outlet reported regarding his kidnapping according to the PuntodeCorte portal.
Deputy América de Grazia, from that area, stated, “Effect of the Mining Arc of Death. The victim was denouncing the gold mafias operating in Guayana.”
De Grazia also detailed that Aldrin Torres had been reporting corruption within Minerven and its board.
The opposition deputy mentioned the governor of Bolívar state in his statement, claiming that he was “confronted” with the victim: “These political operators of Justo Noguera are implicated in the systematic bankruptcy of the mining company to favor the ‘new’ cyanidation plants installed in the area.”
