Alí Rodríguez Retains Presidency Amid Controversial Board Restructuring and Alleged Political Maneuvering

This is the official statement from PDVSA: ‘The Board of Directors of Petróleos de Venezuela has been expanded to ten members, with its internal structure now including three vice presidencies. This is in accordance with the Presidential Decree number 37,896, dated March 11, which was announced this Friday by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Rafael Ramírez.

With this expansion, the PDVSA Board of Directors is composed as follows: Alí Rodríguez Araque, President; José Rojas, Félix Rodríguez, and Iván Hernández, Vice Presidents; Dester Rodríguez and Nelson Martínez, internal directors; Luis Vierma, Nelson Núñez, Rafael Rosales, and Víctor Álvarez, external directors.

José Rojas, Iván Hernández, and Víctor Álvarez are the new members of the Board of Directors. José Rojas previously served as Minister of Finance and represented Venezuela at the Inter-American Development Bank; Iván Hernández is currently the General Manager of the Paraguaná Refining Complex and Managing Director of PDV-Marina; Víctor Álvarez is a former Deputy Minister of Industry and President of the Foreign Trade Bank and represented Venezuela at the Free Trade Area of the Americas.

The vice presidents will be responsible for specific areas within the Corporation. Iván Hernández will oversee the national and international refining sector; José Rojas will handle Finance, and Félix Rodríguez will manage Exploration and Production at the national level.’
