Burelli Challenges Insulza on OAS Silence Regarding Human Rights Violations in Venezuela

The fellow blogger Pedro Burelli has confronted the Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, questioning his silence regarding the accusation made this week by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) against Venezuela. Insulza attempts to sidestep the issue, claiming there is no precedent for a Secretary General commenting on IACHR reports, as it is a completely independent body, etc.

Since Pedro has invited comments and questions, I would like to ask Mr. Insulza if he could provide evidence of precedent, as this is the reason he states has prevented him from commenting on the violations of human, civil, and political rights in Venezuela, from a Secretary General of the OAS involved in the following:

Using the position and role in the OAS to promote personal political ambitions. Utilizing the position and role in the OAS to support undemocratic and unconstitutional measures. Leveraging the position and role in the OAS to back dictatorships.
