Following a similar modus operandi to that of the Morón brothers, Maduro ordered the arrest of Francisco Convit Guruceaga, who is reportedly being held at SEBIN’s El Helicoide facility.
His arrest occurred around two weeks ago following a public altercation with a partner of singer Omar Enrique, identified as Miguel Dager Quintero, at a well-known paddle club in eastern Caracas.
During a subsequent raid on Francisco Convit’s bunker-like residence – a member of Derwick Associates and partner of Alejandro Betancourt (also known as the Bolichicos) – SEBIN officials allegedly discovered compromising documents, cash in dollars and euros, and cryptocurrency keys.
Two weeks after Convit’s arrest, similar to what happened with the Santiago and Ricardo Morón brothers, there is still no clarity regarding the status of the judicial case. Sources indicate that the arrest order came directly from Nicolás Maduro.
Francisco Convit has been evading justice in the US since 2018 in connection with a case known as Money Flight or Capital Flight, which we have thoroughly investigated at Cuentas Claras Digital.
The US court identified Convit as a key player in an international network that illegally extracted more than $1.2 billion from PDVSA, exploiting the foreign exchange control. This organized financial crime group, composed of approximately sixteen individuals, including Matthias Krull, an executive from the Swiss bank Julius Baer, laundered the illicit funds through the purchase of real estate in various countries.
