White hair. Measured tone of voice. Circumspect. Suit. Tie. Glasses. Dull gaze. Ineffectual speech. Politically correct. Timid attitude… Here we are faced with the “chief negotiator” of peace and the future of Venezuela, representing the opposition. A man chosen by an elite group, who under no circumstances would appoint someone opposed to their objectives. An operator, not a politician. A mere go-between. A lifelong secretary, not a leader. Without strength. That. The one who speaks for those who appointed him, but not for the opposition people, is the one we must hear. And read. Again and again. As if he were some sort of anointed one.
That one, who quickly repeats the chavista script that criminalizes protest and the right to it.
That one, who negotiates the unalienable.
That one, who detests the reality of a woman with legitimate political power.
That one, an infamous liar who has contributed to undermining the rule of law and democracy.
That one, a buddy and partner of the worst kind of politicians seen.
That one, who is legitimizing the illegitimate for the umpteenth time.
That one, who offers Venezuela’s sovereignty as a sacrifice to an occupying dictatorial power.
That one, the “acceptable,” the “valid” interlocutor.
Who voted for that one?
Who pays his salary?
Where does the democratic legitimacy of his actions come from?
That one, the criollo Chamberlain.
Who can expect anything from that one?
Only a people auto-condemned to ostracism, failure, and yoke can be represented by such an individual, and by those like him, who will cling to the last scraps of relevance. It will be another witches’ sabbath, where the future of all has already been circumscribed to the permanence in positions begged for and held by a few.
For a handful of increasingly devalued Bolívars, they will once again sell the possibility of Venezuela.
Meanwhile, those who dare to raise their voices against that infamy will be attacked by the political establishment of both official sides and their followers. It is the degeneration made “politics,” as it has been, is, and will be if not curtailed once and for all.
